The latest edition of Asbestos: The Analysts’ Guide 2016 has been release in draft by the HSE for consultation among relevant professionals. Responses are required by 20 November 2015.
This is a revised version of the guide last published in 2005. A revision is timely because of the many legislative and technical changes that have occurred since the previous version was issued.
The new guide will be welcome as it will help analysts and their clients comply with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, other codes of practice and published guidance from the HSE. It also takes account of developments in analytical procedures and methodology and clarifies a number of technical and personal safety issues. It covers the water absorption test and has new guidance on asbestos in soils.
The Analyst Guide is designed for a technical audience of analysts, consultants, occupational hygienists, safety professionals etc. Parts may also be useful to removal contractors and supervisors, employers, building owners and people with responsibility for managing properties and estates.
As a leading supplier of surveys, consultancy and analytics and a UKAS accredited laboratory, Broadland Group will be studying the new guide in depth and making practical suggestions where we believe there are opportunities for improvement. We would encourage other professionals to make suggestions so that we end up with a robust document to serve the industry for the years ahead.
