Asbestos Surveys & Management Planning

Regulation 4 of the Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations 2002 (CAWR2002) created a new legal duty to manage asbestos in non-domestic properties and came into force on the 21st May 2004.

CAWR 2002 was superseded by 'Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006' in November 2006 and Regulation 4 remains in place.

There are still many commercial, industrial and public buildings in the UK likely to contain asbestos in one form or another, unless this material is properly managed, building and maintenance workers may breathe in harmful fibres in the course of their day-to-day activities.

The most important requirement is to produce an Asbestos Management Plan which would involve the production of an Asbestos Register to deal with any Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM).

The first step to fulfil these requirements is to perform an asbestos survey.

There are three types of surveys as defined by the Health and Safety Executive:

From existing reports or surveys, Broadland Group Limited can advise on potential risks related to asbestos and non-asbestos hazards.

Management Plans

Broadland Group Limited can advise on management plans for the removal, encapsulation and monitoring of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM). It is also possible to host these for clients and make recommendations on software solutions, eg. including web-based systems.

Inspection Schedules

Broadland Group Limited can suggest inspection schedules for ACM content found as a result of third party surveys.

Air Testing & Environmental Monitoring

Broadland Group Limited provides UKAS accredited testing and inspection services in accordance with HSG 248 Asbestos: The analysts' guide for sampling, analysis and clearance procedures to provide 4 stage clearances and associated certificates of re-occupation following controlled removal of asbestos containing materials by a licensed asbestos removal contractor.

This provides reassurance that the removal works has been undertaken without putting anyone at risk of exposure to asbestos fibres in the future.

Analytical Services

Broadland Group Limited is a UKAS accredited testing laboratory for the identification asbestos within bulk materials in accordance with ISO IEC 17025: 2005.

Asbestos in Materials Scheme (AIMS) which is managed by the Health and Safety Laboratory (HSL) on behalf of the Health and Safety Exective (HSE).

Asbestos Removal Management

Broadland Group Limited will assist in the plan of work for submission to the Health and Safety Executive and notify the works to the Health and Safety Executive.

Supervise the removal contract from start to finish and manage any issues which may arise on site.

Broadland Group Limited will work directly with the asbestos removal contractor, keeping the client fully informed with the contract status and can provide consultancy on all matters relating to asbestos.

The most important requirement of Regulation 4 is the requirement to manage ACM's - a management plan. Broadland Group Limited can advise on this and draw up bespoke plans to meet client needs.

Broadland Group Limited can act as the client's representative for all types of supervision work related to asbestos.

Broadland Group Limited can produce scopes of work for external and internal contractors for removal, encapsulation or surveying.

Asbestos Project Management during removal works, including full on-site contractor supervision, enclosure inspection, leakage and personal and 4 stage clearance procedures including production of certificates of re-occupation.
